As the province of Ontario enters Stage 2 of reopening, child care centres have begun to reopen and the Ministry of Education has called on local school boards to consider what re-opening schools in September may look like.

But there has been little to no discussion on community use of schools. When and how will after-school programs resume? What measures will need to be in place?

Community use of schools is often considered peripheral to education's core mandate. But we know that arts, culture, social and sports activities are essential to physical and mental health, for children, youth and adults.

Therefore, it is critical that we consider what community use of schools will look like as schools reopen. That is why we are inviting you to join a special SPACE Coalition meeting to discuss the future of community use of schools.

Date: Monday, July 20, 2020

Time: 7 pm – 8:30 pm

RSVP:  Email squeiser@socialplanningtoronto.org and Zoom meeting details will be shared with you.

Please come prepared to share your thoughts on the following questions:

  • What questions do you have for schools boards on community use of schools?
  • Do you expect to return to your school space? How may your use change?
